Clara Marschhausen

For this position I deliver customer focused service while selling fresh produce at both the farmstand, and farmers markets in surrounding towns. I am responsible for managing cash and credit card transactions daily, consistently balancing at the end of every shift. I answer questions about produce and growing practices on the farm, promoting local agricultural practices and engagement with customers. I have furthered my teamwork skills, as well as my communication and ability to operate efficiently under a fast paced environment- and continuing to engage with my community.

During my semester as a First Year Seminar Peer Mentor, I was resposible for working with a team to assist and mentor a class of freshman Merrimack students in their spirng semester. I worked closely with the professor and my co-mentor to create schedules and class plans, to ensure that each class ran seamlessly. With several meetings a week inside class and outside, I increased my multitasking skills and motivational skills as well. I was responsible for creating class plans, leading class discussion, making myself available for meetings outside of class for one on one meetings with students, attending weekly meetings with my team to discuss weekly plans for the class, but most importantly becoming an outlet and a safe space for students in their first year at college. Outside of being a mentor, this role enhanced my critical thinking skills and encouraged me to think outside the box, and to work with students to identify academic or personal challenges in order to offer guidance and support to improve classroom success. This role allowed me to gain more experience in a mentor setting, while also facilitating relationships amongst students and myself in order to positively impact my class.

As a Global Ambassador, I represent Merrimacks Study Abroad Program. I've attended and led information sessions for students, tabling events, and admitted students day sessions to promote our Global Merrimack program and speak with students and parents to provide more information. I am able to effectively speak about my own study abroad experience, and offer personalized insight and answer specific questions as well as address parent concerns. This role has allowed me to interact positively with the Merrimack community, and encourage global travel through my own experiences.

In this position, I engaged with hundreds of customers weekly, providing professional, efficient, and friendly interactions in a fast paced environemnt. I was responsible for handling cash and card transactions daily, as well as general upkeep of the stores and the displays- all of which built accuracy, integrity, attention to detail and responsibility. I learned a strong sense of teamwork in this position, as I worked on site at the stand and at off-site farmers markets located in Boston. This position allowed me to be involved with my community and fostered important relationships, while also building my adaptability and multitasking skills.

As an intern for a highschool Justice and the Law class, I aided in classroom instruction by organizing class plans, helping students understand legal concepts, and researched several court cases for class discussion. I participated in discussions surrounding the different parts of the justice system, criminal justice, court procedures, and specific court cases, and I worked closely with the teacher to conduct a Mock Trial with the students. This role developed my early professional skills through being a mentor and collaborating with students and teacher, and intructing on legal procedures.

As a writing consultant at Merrimacks Writing Center, I offer a safe space for students to come in and evaluate their writing, while also gaining new writing skills. Through my work as a consultant students increase their confidence in their writing abilities and receive feedback in a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. I establish a trusting relationship with my clients, and ensure that they are able to work with me to further their writing skills with consistent encouragement and support. My interpersonal skills have increased in this position as well, and I have gained experience being in an instructor role while also being able to connect with peers. I have aided to improve the overall readability of student papers anfd other works, while also being responsible for filling out paperwork records of each client in order to keep track of appointments, and progress made along the way.

Throughout my time as a nanny for multiple familes, I learned how to work with different children on an individual basis, catering to individual needs and learning styles. I fostered a nurturing and supportive environment for each child by consistently addressing the physical, emotional and social needs of the children. I worked hard to establish a supportive environment for both parents and children, handling household duties and cleaning along with childcare. I learned how to operate under high stress situtations involving childen, and gained skills in communication in order to coordinate with parents in regards to the childrens well being.
