Annual Fund Manager

Has overall responsibility for the organization, planning and management of Delaware State University’s program to seek annual gifts from alumni, parents, and friends in support of the operating budget. Acquire new donors as well as upgrading existing donors. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development, the manager shares in the development of comprehensive strategies for all aspects of DSU’s annual fund-raising initiatives.


Essential Functions

  • Leads and manages the Delaware State University annual fund, which primarily raises unrestricted expendable gifts and budgeted financial aid.
  • Sets strategies for, cultivates, and solicits a select group of potential major gift prospects with DSU annual fund ties.
  • Sets and achieves short- and long-term goals for prospect markets including alumni, parents, friends, athletics, and corporate matching and annual gifts.
  • Designs and manages a variety of annual giving activities including personal solicitations by staff and volunteers, phon-a-thons, and direct mail to systematically upgrade current donors’ gifts and acquire new donors.
  • Designs and implements special programs such as a Parents Fund, Giving Days; works collaboratively with the AVP of Alumni Affairs to create and implement giving programs targeted to segments of the alumni such as recent graduate giving, senior class gift and class gifts.
  • Responsible for annual giving market analysis and report generation.
  • Plans and implements annual fund donor stewardship and recognition initiatives.
  • Recruits, trains, and manages annual fund volunteers.
  • Create fundraising reports and provide updates, as necessary.

Other Functions

  • Attend and assist in appropriate local and regional special events.
  • Assist in preparing and sending donor gift acknowledgement letters.
  • Prepares appropriate donor recognition/lists/honor rolls.
  • Assists in the development of a robust development web site.
  • Assists in the research, development, and implementation of a comprehensive capital campaign.
  • Assists in the implementation of a planned giving program.
  • Participates in strategic planning, policymaking, and development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Development Technician

Responsible for the performance of a variety of complex secretarial and clerical duties, as well as technological functions to ensure efficient and effective operation for the Division of Institutional Advancement, provides quality customer relations to internal and external constituencies of the University, and maintains accurate records of fundraising revenue. This position reports to the Special Assistant to the Vice President.

Data Base Management
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate files (manual and electronic) of donor solicitations, gifts received, and gift acknowledgements.
  • Record, file & acknowledge all eligible donations received on behalf of the Foundation
  • Post gifts donations from RE to FE
  • Create new constitutes records and clean up any duplications as necessary
  • Create new gift accounts fund numbers in RE/FE
  • Record gift guideline in RE system
  • Save a copy of the Donor's Gift agreement in the Development share drive under the appropriate file
  • Prepare, edit, file & mail out donor acknowledgement letters/receipts

Generate statistical reports of fundraising activities and other documents as directed for staff, board members, donors, etc.

Web Management

Create new events donation link and add to Foundation website

Update Foundation web page as necessary

Equipment Management

• Oversees the maintenance of all equipment (copier, fax, shredder, etc.), contacting appropriate staff when necessary for repairs and maintenance

• Assist new staff with set-up of electronic equipment (iPads, iPhones, computers, printers, etc.) ' Contact Asset Management when equipment is obsolete

File Room Management

• Maintain office files - - - following the University Retention and Destruction Policy for all outdated files

• Maintain file room order

Other Functions

1. Serve as back-up to the Administrative Secretary and Administrative Technician as necessary

2. Assist in the coordination of fundraising events, meetings and related activities.

3. Provide leadership in coordinating assignments for student workers and interns, as needed.
