Past member of Moorhead Lions Club. I was an active member for 4 years volunteering for projects and fund raising to improve health and wellbeing, strengthen communities, and support local organizations and individuals in need. I volunteered at Churches United monthly, cooking and serving a meal, I participated in numerous fundraising and charity events.
Volunteered with People's Diversity Forum in Fargo. This was an organization that assisted New Americans and low income persons with
legal and community issues. In my capacity as a volunteer I helped New Americans access services to assist them in their transition into a new community, showing them how to set up bank accounts, access housing, make appointments, and assisting them in many aspects of life that we take for granted. I organized outside agencies to come into our offices and offer classes: Babysitting and care giving classes through Social Services, CPR through Red Cross, rental agencies gave talks on being good residents. I enjoyed this type of volunteering so much I started my own group.. .
New America Sewing Club. I teach sewing to immigrants in the Fargo/Moorhead area. When news of my classes got around I had so many wonderful people donate material, notions and other supplies to the cause. Through these classes 'my ladies' get to practice their English, practice math, learn to read patterns and most of all enjoy fellowship with their neighbor's. It is still one of the most rewarding things I do. A short story was done on my group and posted to the ND Supreme Court Website.
Heart of Clay. This is an organization that goes into prisons and jails, teaching life skills as well as holding bible study. We have 3 homes in Moorhead that are available for recently released clients to live in free of charge while getting back on their feet. We do various fund raising in the area to support these homes. I volunteer to transport clients to meetings, running errands and getting to appointments.
