From a young age I developed a sense for helping those around around me. Whether it was my peers, my family, or even my educators, I always had a need to make sure that if there was anything i could do to help, I would do it. At the same time I was developing this desire to help, I was also becoming very attached to the education system that I was growing up in. I very much enjoyed going to school, which you don't hear a lot from most students. Throughout my educational career, I have always enjoyed being a part of this big system that is providing people with the tools to succeed in adulthood. I realized in my high school years, through being heavily involved in extracurriculars such as concert band, marching band, choir, and theatre, that I have a knack for leadership and support. Very quickly, whenever I joined these activities, I became a leader and someone that anyone could come to for advice, support, and questions. I was talented in the musical world, as I was principal chair clarinetist all four years of high school, a section leader in the marching band all four years of high school, a section leader in the choir my last two years of high school, and playing multiple roles in each play or musical my theatre department put on. Then on to college I was still involved in similar areas but I also expanded to student government. At one time I was a section and squad leader in the University of Akron Marching Band, I was the Secretary in the Co-Ed Music Sorority, Tau Beta Sigma - Epsilon Iota, and for a brief period, one of two Co-Directors of Diversity and Inclusion in the University of Akron's Undergraduate Student Government. Throughout my whole life I have been fortunate enough to find myself in these leadership positions and these important roles in the lives of my peers and family. One note I would like to add is that I very genuinely enjoy clerical work such as schedule making and office record keeping, which is something I know Guidance Counselors work with often. With the experiences I've had and the deep understanding I have when it comes to being empathetic and supportive, I feel as though being a Guidance Counselor is my calling.
