Over the summer between my junior and senior year, I attended a week long conservation workshop at NC State sponsored by the NC Soil and Water Conservation Districts. At the workshop, I learned about natural resource management through hands-on activities, field study, and tours that focused on the soil, water quality, wildlife, and forests. We learned about conservation practices such as buffer zones, pasture rotations, BPMs, organic plant growing, and different soil types as well as exploring careers in environmental science and meeting resource professionals. The week fostered a deep understanding of conservation and how to be an environmental steward.
