During my time at this facility, I have worked in multiple units, including medical, surgical, cardiac/telemetry, transitional care, intensive care, and critical care units.
My job description includes caring for a patient load safely and according to policy, procedure, and providing my best care.
I have inserted and maintained IVs, Foley catheters, and nasogastric and orogastric tubes.
Provided necessary care for central, mid, and PICC lines, such as sterile dressing changes, medication administration, TPN administration, and lab draws from the lines.
I have experience with blood product administration, soft wrist restraint application, and assessments, as well as traditional tasks such as medication passes, blood collection, IV insertion, assessments, appropriately managing my time with my tasks and delegations as appropriate, and ensuring proper documentation.
As of July 2023, I have worked in the intensive care unit and gained experience caring for patients who are intubated and/or on titratable drips, ensuring that I work and document per order parameters and facility policy. During my time in the ICU, I have served as a charge nurse for my unit, and a safety coach for my facility.
As a charge nurse, I have made sure that all of my department's standards of care have been met, including holding my coworkers accountable for following policy on Foley catheters, central lines, ventilator protocol, fall precautions, and bedside shift report. I have delegated tasks appropriately and fairly to accommodate the needs of the unit.
My role as a safety coach includes making sure my facility is following Joint Commission standards, keeping patients safe, and educating when needed.
While working on the med/surg floor, I have served as charge nurse, appropriately managing admissions, discharges, and transfers.
I have also served as a preceptor to new hires and nursing students, educating them on my hospital's policies and procedures.
As of October 2024, I have trained as a house supervisor, which includes managing the flow of operations in the hospital, communicating with doctors, nurses, and other staff, identifying patient and/or family concerns, offering a solution, monitoring productivity for the hospital, and being active in patient transfers from outside facilities.
