Google has published a detailed article describing how we implemented a complete Disaster Recovery process using Terraform, Ansible, and Bash for the company Rodan & Fields. At the time, Google had no existing Disaster Recovery product to work with, so we had to create everything from scratch. The deployment process was performed using the same automation framework I wrote the Infrastructure as Code [IaC] using Terraform + Ansible and Shell Scripting to deploy the entire DEV, QA, QA N+1, PRD & DR SAP ECC environment for the client.

I was awarded Employee of the Month and Innovation Award Winner for my leading contribution to a Marathon Petroleum project, which included designing a major end-to-end Disaster Recovery automation solution. I was able to completely orchestrate failover in waves of systems in a particular order of starting and stopping services from databases, applications, along with NFS and CIF's shares using Azure NetApp Files & NetApp ONTAP replication. Then utilized Invoke-AzVMRunCommand to initialize the VM which has failed over to replication site and update any hard-coded entries that required manual update, such as hosts files, exports, mounts, configs, along with application config and start processes. This was achieved via a framework written completely from scratch via PowerShell, Bash, orchestrated by a series of Azure Automation PowerShell Runbooks called by Azure Site Recovery (ASR) Recovery Plans.
