While in high school, there was an EMT course that was offered through our ROP center. Our ROP center was full of classes such as automotive care, firefighting, nursing, physical therapy, welding, culinary, Emergency Medical Technician, etc. I chose the EMT course because I thought it would be a fun and interesting class. Through my time in the class I was able to work as medical stand-by for different high school's football games in my district, rodeos, and marathons. At these events I saw many minor injuries such as cramps, sprains, and nose bleeds. I also saw more extreme injuries such as a broken collar bone, concussion, twisted ankles, shortness of breath. Under the supervision of my teacher, my classmates and I would take turns treating these different injuries when they arose. I gained a lot of knowledge on how to stay calm under pressure, treat various injuries, and give good communication.
