Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation

Served clients aged 40-90+ in 150 bed unit containing short-term and long-term care residents.

• Included assessment and intervention directed toward dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, voice disorders and cognitive deficits in geriatric population.
• Administered standardized tests including: BCAT, BCIS, KPT, VPJ, BDAE, Brisbane-EBLT, FAVRES, WAB, BNT, QAB, PNT, Frenchay, Newcastle Dysarthria Assessment Tool (N-DAT).
• Preformed and analyzed bedside videofluoroscopy swallow studies (i.e., FEES) with supervision.
• Participated in interdisciplinary team approach involving physicians, nursing staff, relevant rehabilitation staff, caregivers, family members and social services to ensure a holistic approach to patient care with an emphasis on returning to prior level of function and/or safe discharge planning for each individual patient.
• Planned and implemented individualized treatment sessions, wrote functional goals, managed caseload independently, attended care plan meetings, provided in-service to nursing staff on relevant topics.

Outpatient Pediatrics

• Administered standardized assessments including the PLS-5, CELF-P, CELF-5, DP-4, GFTA-3, DAYC
• Provided individualized interventions for pediatrics to young adolescents with a variety of concerns including; articulation, language, hearing, AAC, and ASD with treatment focusing on expressive and receptive language, communication modalities (i.e., ASL, PECS, AAC devices- TouchChat, LAMP, GoTalk), and pragmatics.
• Coordinated with occupational therapist to implement multi-disciplinary approach to intervention

Acute inpatient/outpatient Clinical Practicum

• Performed assessment, intervention and caregiver education involving patients with following disorders: dysphagia, aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, cognitive deficits and voice disorders.
• Completed modified barium swallow chart review, administration, and dissemination of recommended strategies.
• Collaborated with nursing, physicians, respiratory therapists, relevant rehabilitation staff, registered dieticians regarding patients plan of care.
• Exposed to swallowing/feeding assessment and interventions for infants in the NICU.

Adult Neuro and Voice Clinical Practicum

• Administered SSI-4, CAPE-V, WAB, BNT for assessment of chronic stroke patients, fluency disorders, organic, functional and neurological voice disorders.
• Developed and implemented individual treatment to target effective communication through restorative, adaptive or compensatory strategies.
• Collaboratively planned and implemented intervention for Aphasia groups with clients of differing diagnoses, diverse cultural/linguistic backgrounds and differing abilities.

• Assisted the Division Director for the Speech Language and Hearing Clinic with various administrative tasks, filing, copying and faxing documents.
• Completed administrative patient intakes with case histories, insurance information and mandated forms.
• Organized and maintained patient chart filing system to promote quick data finding for staff.
• Offered guidance to undergraduate students on academic and career planning to support professional goal setting.
• Monitored tutor scheduling systems, responded to emails and other correspondence to facilitate communication.
