Work History

Eastern Shelf and North Texas Geologist

Independent & Contract
2018.01 - Current

  • Exploration and research for zones ranging from the Gunsight through the Ellenburger for multiple clients and myself.
  • Base map generation and detailed data curation in Geographix. Correcting IHS well data such as well spots, elevations, and incorrect assigned well logs using library and Rail Road Commission records.
  • Production mapping and exploring for multi-pay potential in North Texas and Eastern Shelf regions. Counties include, Archer, Haskell, Jones, Nolan, Palo Pinto, Shackelford, and Throckmorton.
  • Exploring for oil potential on the Eastern Shelf, primarily Strawn. Current prospects include a stacked pay potential prospect with formations ranging from shallow King sands, to the Strawn and Caddo based upon structure mapping, production, and mud log shows.
  • Exploration for new drill potential in Strawn age channel sands in Archer County, contract.
  • Generated a revised look at a Ranger Anticline in the historic Ranger Oil Field, TX. Mapped multiple horizons including the Ranger sand. Data included modern electric logs, Bess Mason driller's logs dating back to year 1917, prior studies from the 1930's, and production maps dating back to year 1919.
  • Generated a reef prospects in Shackelford County, TX. Prospect primarily based upon multi-horizon subsurface structure mapping reflecting surface structure.
  • Client requested well reviews. Collect and scan data, evaluate remaining production and up-hole potential. Projects include a review of 86 stripper wells across Texas.

Field Geologist & Mud Logging

Craig-Morgan Logging, Stivers Consulting
2017.08 - Current
  • Wellsite geology and field experience for over 100 conventional and unconventional wells.
  • Midland Basin, Delaware Basin, East New Mexico, Eastern Shelf, Fort Worth Basin, Hardeman Basin, Matador Arch, Bend Arch, Eastern Shelf, and Texoma region.
  • Analyzed and described formation mud samples during vertical and directional drilling for various formations across North and West Texas. Permian basin formations include Spraberry Shale, Wolfcamp A/B, and Bone Springs.
  • Monitored formation gas for the potential for hydrocarbon production.
  • Correlated active mud logging with prior offset well logs predetermined targets and markers.
  • Advised and assisted in coordinating drilling practices (such as WOB, RPM, sample circulation, stop drilling) with operators and drillers dependent upon a specific reservoir rock's known characteristics.
  • Worked alongside and reported to well operations teams on a daily basis.
  • Call and set drill stem test (DST) following hydrocarbon shows. Monitor DST procedures. Interpret pressure measurements and fluid recovery for production viability. Report DST results to operators and advise on further action following the test.
  • Assisted in the supervision of coring operations and on-site identification of hydrocarbon potential within the cores.
  • Worked 12 hour tour rotations, as well as full rotations being the sole logger from logging depth to total depth.

Permian Geologist

Independent & Contract
2018.03 - Current
  • Petroleum exploration in the Midland Basin as the lead geologist for multiple clients located in Fort Worth and Midland Texas.
  • Identified new pay zone and new play potential in tight and conventional reservoirs.
  • Multiple regional & field scale projects in the northern and central Midland basin.
  • Performed highly detailed stratigraphic correlations, subsurface mapping, and formation evaluation for key zones extending from the Grayburg through the Devonian.
  • Built a detailed stratigraphic framework for the Spraberry through the Wolfcamp D.
  • Generated various cross sections on a field to multi-county scale.
  • Generated detailed subsurface maps including structure, gross isopach, various net isopachs, porosities, and petrophysical maps for conventional and unconventional targets in LMKR Geographix.
  • Self-taught petrophysical analysis and troubleshooting to derive effective porosities, lithologies, TOC, maturity, source rock potential, net pay, OOIP, and build water saturation models for volumetrics in complex tight sands and shales.
  • Implemented relevant horizontal production outside of client leaseholds or AOI to assess current and future economic potential.
  • Provided guidance for the identification or condemnation of potential new areas on interest and well locations following the geology, mapping, rock parameters, hydrocarbon shows, and prior success and failures.
  • Derived individual well reserve estimates from decline curve analysis in PHDwin.
  • Experienced in presenting and articulating findings to clients and potential partners ranging from smaller firms to major independent oil and gas companies.

Intern Geologist

QEP Resources
2015.05 - 2016.08
  • Assessed the production potential of the Atoka Detrital within Andrews and Martin Counties in the northern Midland Basin.
  • Generated structure, gross thickness, and net reservoir isopach maps via well log correlations in LMKR Geographix.
  • Developed a geologic story, depositional setting, source and reservoir potential for the prospect via advanced open hole logs, cross sections, and side wall core data.
  • Presented conclusions regarding optimal future well locations and potential lease acquisitions, dependent upon various strip prices.
  • Responsible for finding behind-pipe pay and further legacy asset value Wamsutter Arch in Southern Wyoming.
  • Recommended a plan of action for legacy wells in collaboration with an engineer intern involving the potential for workovers, up-hole compilation, or shut-in.
  • Continual collaboration with multiple disciplines including geology, geophysics, engineering , and land professions.
