  • Conduct research on axonal regeneration using techniques including PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Handle analytical lab equipment, including thermal cyclers, fluorescence microscopes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, incubators/heating blocks, analytical balances, and pH meters, in order to record experimental outcomes accurately.
  • Prepare buffers and solutions using analytical balances, and maintain sterile technique.
  • Maintain digital documentation, and contribute to SOP discussions and refinements.
  • Collaborated with others and faculty on hands-on research projects, as well as trained and assisted new students in the use of laboratory techniques and experimental procedures.
  • Review and summarize the scientific literature to support experimental design and validate the reagents used in the protocols for our experiments.
  • Use Excel and other software tools, like ImageJ and Neuromath, to conduct data collection, analysis, and detailed documentation.
  • Digitally document experimental data using Excel, also noting procedures and refinements in my personal lab notebook.

Animal Care

  • Handle daily animal care, and transport animals safely between facilities, following established protocols.
  • Perform and assist in surgical procedures, including dorsal root ganglion (DRG) extraction, optic and sciatic nerve extraction, and eye and retina extraction, while maintaining sterile conditions.
  • Prepare and culture DRG cells to study growth dynamics and the effects of specific antibodies.
  • Prepare and stain tissue samples to be mounted on slides, and analyzed using image express microscopy.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, animal health, and use of notecards alongside numbered and ear-punched animals for documentation to ensure data integrity.
