My interest in history developed at a very young age. Similarly to many other history teachers, I had a teacher in my middle school years that inspired me. I remember, at a young age looking up this particular teacher. I felt like I could rely on him not only as a teacher but as a reliable figure in my life. This inspiration branched off into vigorous amounts of research in the field of history. I became obsessed with ancient civilizations and the way that human history has progressed since ancient times. However, I always end up bringing myself back to the same thought that I want to be a reliable figure for my students in their lives. As my last days at Hillcrest Elementary School have approached, I have begun to see the impact I have made on my students' lives. That is what makes it worth it for me.
I began as a student teacher at Hillcrest Elementary school on August 1st, 2023. I have worked with students throughout the school year improving their understanding of history. However, teaching the students history has not been my main priority. I have worked vigorously to build relationships with each and every student. I strive to have a classroom in which my students feel comfortable with me not only being their teacher but someone that they can rely on. I have encouraged and challenged my students to view history from a different point of view. I want my students to create abstract ideas and think critically. Overall, my time at Hillcrest Elementary School has been a great learning experience for me as well as my students.
