Summary

As an Electronics Technician Second Class (ET2) at ESD Astoria, I provide technical support across 12 Coast Guard units spanning over 300 miles of the Pacific Northwest. I install, maintain, and repair mission-critical electronic systems including VHF/UHF radios, HF communications, radar, GPS, AIS, and Rescue 21 infrastructure. My work supports operations at high-demand units such as Station Cape Disappointment and the National Motor Lifeboat School, where reliable communications are essential to search and rescue missions. I conduct both scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs, often under severe coastal weather conditions, ensuring minimal downtime for cutters, stations, and Aids to Navigation teams. My responsibilities also include system diagnostics, parts procurement, and documentation through ALMIS and TISCOM platforms.

I have extensive experience troubleshooting electronics in austere environments, enforcing cybersecurity and COMSEC standards, and mentoring junior technicians on system operation and safety. I regularly coordinate depot-level repairs, manage equipment inventories, and maintain readiness of life-saving systems. Skilled with oscilloscopes, RF test equipment, and digital diagnostics tools, I’m proficient in interpreting schematics, applying NEC and OSHA safety standards, and ensuring compliance with Coast Guard and DoD maintenance protocols. My work directly contributes to operational readiness and maritime safety in one of the most dynamic and demanding SAR regions in the country.
