Fiber Optic Lineman

  • During my time as a lineman, I worked in three different areas. In 2021, I worked on storm damage, cleaning up damaged fiber and rehanging new fiber in Louisiana for 2 1/2 months as a ground hand. During my time working there, I learned how to operate a bucket truck, work a lasher, use all of the tools our crew had on hand, and climb poles. In 2022, I worked on a contract under Pennyrile Electric in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, for a little over two years until the contract was up. My crew and I worked on a variety of fiber jobs that included self-support for the whole contract, but occasionally there were other jobs, like strand and lash, MSTs, interstate crossings, and cable very seldom. When I worked over there, I really started to build my skill set. I learned how to lead a crew, work with underground fiber, read blueprint maps, figure out how to work around setbacks, and improve my ability to think outside the box to get jobs done faster, easier, and better. And finally, in December 2024 to April 2025, I contracted with a cable company running fiber in Selma, Alabama.

  • I worked in the paint department, helping customers choose different colors for their homes. Occasionally, I would help other departments if they were short-staffed, or if something was too heavy. For the most part I made sure all of the products were in stock and where it should be.

City Event Associate

  • Public events, like children's sports games or special seasonal events held at the state park, would be hosted by the city, and I would help by being a referee or managing the scoreboard at games, or helping whoever needs assistance at any of the other special events.

  • Every Wednesday after school, I would help put together all of the pieces of the newspaper that included sports, main news, community events, etc. I would also help with delivery to the stores that had a weekly subscription to the paper, and other post offices.

  • As a summer job before my senior year of high school, I worked for a good friend, Thomas Twiddy. He owned a small aviation business at a private airport. He taught me about wiring, identifying parts and equipment, and safety.
