I Provide guidance and leadership to ensure that the Department's financial management personnel and decision makers, as well as other internal and external stakeholders and reporting entities, (including OMB, GAO, Department of Treasury and OIG), receive timely and accurate financial information. Ensure that financial information and reports are compliant with appropriate federal regulations and guidance, complete, consistent, relevant, timely, and comprehensible. Answer inquiries concerning Departmental and provide guidance to agencies on financial audit responsibilities and day-to-day accounting processes and procedures as appropriate. Review proposed revisions to existing systems or new systems and recommend modifications to assure that revisions are responsive to fiscal requirements. Provide Departmental officials with technical advice and assistance to solve complex problems in assigned areas.

Oversee as well as actively participate in the conduct of evaluations of the effectiveness of, and compliance with, accounting standards and procedures and internal controls, and recommends appropriate revisions to systems to ensure consistency with Government-wide and departmental requirements. Assist in the planning and conduct of evaluations throughout the Department to ensure compliance with established financial and accounting standards and to help identify opportunities for improving performance. Oversee efforts to identify, research, evaluate, and recommend options on issues that affect the Departments financial management activities. Develop proposals for solving difficult financial management problems. Identify the need for and may recommend modifications and or improvements in Departmental regulations and policies. Develop procedures as needed, to implement approved agency systems and standard .
