Proven track record in enhancing classroom dynamics and student engagement as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Hays CISD, leveraging expertise in behavior management techniques and verbal communication. Excelled in multitasking and organizational skills, achieving positive outcomes in high-stress environments, including corrections and educational settings.
I was a corrections officer. I held my advanced jailers license from taking online and in-class training. I was responsible for the security and safety of not only the inmates but the staff as well. I worked under stressful situations and maintained my composure. I was a field training officer and a background investigator. I was one of the few chosen from each shift to be handgun and shotgun certified. I underwent lots of training from scenarios to fire drills and suicide attempts.
I worked central control for many years. This is an area that most people don't normally work due to the high stress volume and security nature of this area. Some of my job duties consisted of documenting any drills or emergency calls that went out. I was responsible for operating all the doors and cameras in the facility. I had to communicate via handheld radio for most transactions. I had to notify dispatch when EMS was needed. I also had to document the entire process from the moment of the call to the moment they left the jail with the inmate.
I was responsible for conducting headcount for the entire jail at the end of each shift. I had to use Microsoft excel and document every housing areas headcount. It was my responsibility to make sure count was correct. If count was off, I'd have to communicate with everyone and find where the problem was. I also had to write reports if any altercations took place. Reports needed to be thorough in case they would be shown in court.
Some of the physical demanding aspects of the job were, lifting a "dummy body" in drills, running to emergency calls, scenario training and control tactics (which is forms of self-defense and controlled takedowns.)
I had to have great communication skills in order to defuse certain situations between inmates and/or inmates and myself. I had to make many decisions with little to no time to make them. I had to negotiate with certain inmates and talk them out of doing any harm to themselves or others.
I was a lead teacher. I was responsible for attending to children from ages 18-24 months old. I had to keep them on a schedule, plan activities for them and document how their day went. At the end of the day, I would communicate with the parents on how their child's day went and if there were any concerns.
