I am seeking an internship at the Georgia Aquarium to gain hands-on experience with aquatic organisms while exploring the connection between marine science, human health, and biotechnology. I am interested in the ethical treatment of animals while learning how they may relate to human health such as iron-deficient fish and immortal jellyfish. Being a strong swimmer with experience interacting with marine animals, I will be able to safely navigate various species and I am very attentive to animal handling guidelines. My long-term plans include pursuing a doctorate degree and contributing to research in a national laboratory or biotechnology company.

I interacted with kid’s clubs at a table station where I helped them with experiments that taught about plastic pollution and oil spills. I helped them sift through sand and plastic while answering questions about animals. As part of the program I also was part of a high school team where we built an underwater robot that we took to collect water samples from a local river. We also toured the zoo and created presentations about various conservation topics.

I went on a tour of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium with a group of other students from UF. We learned about the mission of animal rehabilitation where we got to interact with sting rays and observe employees working with animals. We also got to ask questions as we watched veterinarians performing labs and we listened to guest speakers talk about various career opportunities.
