Alternative Service Break | Trip Leader | Environmental Justice (Eastern NC)
Explored Eastern North Carolina and introduced students to topics of sustainability, environmental justice, service and action Led students through the Cape Fear River Basin and discovered some of the most challenging environmental issues impacting the state of North Carolina and its residents. From downstream water quality and hazardous waste contamination, to the impacts of Eastern North Carolina’s concentrated animal feeding operations, trip participants explored complex sustainability challenges and listened to everyday people fighting for environmental justice in their communities.
CNR Engaging Leaders Program | Advisory Board (Raleigh, NC)
• Serving as a mentor to current EL students aimed at building community, developing personal leadership and communication skills, learning professionalism, and learning about diversity/inclusion.
• Responsible for overseeing group cohesion, engagement, and their ability to effectively represent the College of Natural Resources by leading events pertaining to Professional Development, Community Outreach, and Community Service/Involvement.
• Attend Advisory Board meetings and retreats aimed at sharing ideas on how to further improve and develop the Engaging Leaders Program.
• Assisted in the planning and co-management of EL Leadership Retreats for 21 individuals which included diversity/inclusion workshops and teambuilding activities

Dedicated a week to helping a Habitat for Humanity (HFH) community and homeowners build houses alongside volunteers. Supported sustainable and transformative development in Florida, advocating for affordable housing while promoting dignity and hope. HFH is a faith based non-profit organization aimed to provide a place to live for everyone.
Alternative Service Break | Youth/Child Development (Montrouis, Haiti)
Worked closely with Together We Can (TWC), Inc. in a team with the communities, translators, and youth and children towards improving a Haitian community’s quality of life. TWC is a non-profit organization aimed to serve everyone and our team dedicated time at a local school and orphanage in order to promote healthy, responsible, and productive lifestyles in this community through education, faith/religion, and fun indoor/outdoor activities.
Alternative Service Break | Environmental Issues (Punta Gorda, Belize)
Committed a week to establishing the nursery for the farmers of the Toledo Cacao Grower’s Association and continuing a partnership with the non-profit, Peacework. Worked in close proximity to the Maya House of Cacao hand mixing concrete and organic soils, carrying and pouring concrete slabs, bagging the soil, and planting/watering cacao seeds.
Peace & Justice Center | Fair Trade & Equality (Burlington, VT)
Provided strong customer service work and learned how to use the ‘Point of Sales System’ in order to complete sales. Researched the Fair Trade Movement and other social justice topics in order to share with visitors and members. Shared literature and information on how to get involved with the Peace and Justice Center. Developed data management skills, stocking inventory, processing and merchandising products, and collecting inventory.
