Calving

• Assisted with calving season, ensuring the safe delivery of newborns and proper care for mother cows.
• Administers newborn vaccinations, naval dip, weight, and tags.

Breeding

• Rode through cows throughout the day to observe cows coming into heat to sort and bring into barn to AI.
• Assisted in selecting semen and preparing AI gun to be used in breeding cattle.
• Sorted cow calf pairs based on sex and breed to be turned out with a specific bull.

Weaning/shipping

• Gathered groups of cattle and separated from their mothers.
• Assessed and documented calves based on body condition, weight, and breeding.
• Vaccinated, took hair (purebreds), and penned or loaded cattle onto trucks.

Summer/Fall

• Turnout livestock onto grazing allotment pastures and rotated them based on availability of feed and water
• Strategically packed out salt and mineral to cattle for nutritional value and to draw them to certain locations.
• Rode sections of pasture daily to ensure cattle were in the correct location, in good health, and to look for any cattle deaths caused by predators or poisonous plants.
• Moved cattle to new feed using low stress cattle handing techniques horseback and with the help of stock dogs.

Winter/Spring

• Received high risk sale barn cattle into a backgrounding yard to process and prepare to move to pivot pastures.
• Rode health of cattle daily to determine sickness, injury, or signs of stress.
• Doctored cattle through a chute or roping cattle using minimal stress techniques to administer antibiotics.

• Assisted as seasonal help in livestock care and feedlot ranch operations.
• Operated and maintained equipment used in feeding livestock.
• Moved livestock by herding animals on horseback to different ranch locations and pens.
• Repaired and built various types of fencing in order to prevent wandering animals from escaping or entering premises.
