• Care for postpartum moms and newborn babies from birth until discharge

Stork

• Attend c-section and vaginal deliveries as the " baby catcher" for newborns 35 weeks and up
• Assess newborn's status as soon as baby is born (color, cry, tone, VS), assign apgar scores, and resuscitate as needed
• Administer, CPAP, PPV, deep suction, monitoring vital signs to stabilize baby
• Work as a team and call for extra help (NICU) in situations where extra care is required

Postpartum/maternal care

• Perform thorough assessments, check fundal tone, monitor vital signs, intake and output, and bleeding
• Assess patient's mobility after having a spinal or epidural, and assist with getting up to the restroom; straight cath patient's who are unable to void and have a distended bladder
• Control pain adequately using pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic methods. Reassess what is working for the patient
• Observe labs and notify the doctor of anything abnormal, such as low HnH or high WBC
• Administer blood transfusions if needed and ordered by the OB
• Educate patients' on incision or vaginal tear care, how to notice an infection and when to call the doctor

Newborn care

• Perform assessments and notify doctors of any abnormalities
• Observe and assist with breast or formula feedings and monitor intake/output
• Place jaundice babies under phototherapy and explain to parents how it works and the causes of jaundice
• Assist doctors with circumcisions
• Educate parents on newborn care, including feeding frequencies, safe sleep guidelines, bathing, circumcision care, umbilical cord care, jaundice, any signs of infections, and reasons to call the pediatrician

• Floated to multiple mother baby units within the Baylor facilities
• Worked in the Employee Health covid command center –assessing employees who were exposed or exhibited symptoms related to covid19, ordering and scheduling tests; putting them on furlough.
