Assess patient's mobility after having a spinal or epidural, and assist with getting up to the restroom; straight cath patient's who are unable to void and have a distended bladder
Control pain adequately using pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic methods. Reassess what is working for the patient
Observe labs and notify the doctor of anything abnormal, such as low HnH or high WBC
Administer blood transfusions if needed and ordered by the OB
Educate patients' on incision or vaginal tear care, how to notice an infection and when to call the doctor
Newborn care
Perform assessments and notify doctors of any abnormalities
Observe and assist with breast or formula feedings and monitor intake/output
Place jaundice babies under phototherapy and explain to parents how it works and the causes of jaundice
Assist doctors with circumcisions
Educate parents on newborn care, including feeding frequencies, safe sleep guidelines, bathing, circumcision care, umbilical cord care, jaundice, any signs of infections, and reasons to call the pediatrician
