I have been a registered nurse for 19 years. I finished my Doctor of Nursing Practice/Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville May 5, 2023. I have been working as a Nurse Practitioner at Springfield Clinic since October 2023 and was recognized as a nationally ranked top 10% provider for Press Ganey in 2024 and 2025. I am currently a provider in Cardiology and prior to this I was a provider for the walk-in clinic in Taylorville, which is run like urgent care. Before transferring to the MAT clinic, I worked in Cardiothoracic Surgery with a surgeon and it consisted of helping residents’ round on postoperative patients while they are inpatient, handling all outpatient phone calls from patients and running his clinics which included setting patients up for testing and surgery. In the hospital my duties varied daily. I performed full assessments, removed chest tubes, and pacing wires following heart and lung surgeries. I was responsible for all discharge teaching prior to the patient leaving the hospital. In December 2015 I transferred within the institution to the inpatient setting as a bedside nurse on the cardiovascular step-down unit at St. John’s Hospital. On an average day I would be responsible for a team of 5-7 patients. Our patient population ranged from post stents/angioplasty to post open heart and lung surgery patients.
