I worked in the infirmary at the Lane Murray Unit. My job responsibilities included medication administration, performing head-to-toe assessments, wound care, phlebotomy, IV therapy, responding to emergencies, utilizing critical thinking skills, multitasking, charting, obtaining verbal orders from providers, answering "sick calls" from the inmates and treating based off the facilities nursing protocols, and providing patient education as ordered.
This position entailed rooming patients, medication administration, IV therapy, obtaining vital signs, performing wound care, removing sutures, setting up for minor procedures, contacting patient's to provide test results, responding to emergency calls, utilizing critical thinking skills, multitasking, obtaining specimens such as strep/flu swabs and urine, and charting. I was also responsible for stocking and rotating supplies.
I worked on a Medical-Surgical Unit that specialized in Orthopedics. Although my home floor was Orthopedics, we were trained to float to all Medical-Surgical floors which included Neurology, Oncology, and the Surgical floor. I was responsible for caring for up to six patients at once. This position required utilizing critical thinking skills, multitasking, medication administration, phlebotomy, IV therapy, wound care, providing basic patient care such as assisting with showers and bed baths, charting, responding to emergency calls, head to toe assessments, delegating appropriate tasks to floor tech's, provide post op and pre op care, and receiving and providing report at beginning and end of shift.
