BUILD YOUR OWN HOME

CURTISALAN & LAURIE ROBINSON
Phoenix, AZ
06.1988 - 03.2003

We moved into a home that my Parents and Us prayed for after about 5 years in My Parents rental Home. At which time I worked in the Family Swimming Pool Business:

Robinson Pools. Three Years into my Marriage.

then it was time to Move because My Grandmother needed the Rental Home

(2610 West Lane).

So, 226 E. Carol was purchased, by My parents and My Brothers. Mother said " you will get the money you invest in the property and that will be all, no interest. That did happen, It was a 600 sq ft. home, in a Depressed area of Phoenix,az. We painted the home all new inside and the cabinets inside and out. It had a SWAMP Cooler only and a

60 AMP SERVICE with fuses. We began to dream knowing that the home must be bigger and we had No Funds. I Drew up the plans and the New Home was born. Over the next

15 years I would build our home from the ground -up adding 2000 sq feet to the home that the city says is 2800 sq feet. I installed the New Sewer, and reattached to the Old Sewer, Installed TWO 200 AMP ELECTRICAL SERVICES, All the wiring for the Home, All the Plumbing for the home, all The Framing, Dry wall, finishing of the Drywall, all the Flooring, I had to finish the cabinets, the man we hired quit. the roofing. The Exterior Plywood and 2-inch foam and Hired out the Stucco Job. The building of the Stair well and the Steps had to be right on to code. The Installation of Fire alarms, Fire Sprinklers, Installation of the Exterior doors and the Interior Doors. The Metal Roofing of the Second Floor, The Outside Balconies, The

2 nd Floor walls are Triple insulated with a Dead air Space in the middle. The ceilings are 9ft plus down stairs and Vaulted on the 2nd Floor. All 4 -bedrooms have a Private full Bath for each and there is a Half bath off of the Kitchen. The Laundry room is indoors with hook -ups for Washer and Gas Dryer, Cabinets . Laundry Counter and Laundry Sink. there is also hook up for washer and Dryer outside for the part of the home that has its own Kitchenette and Heat pump with a Private Entrance. and Vaulted ceiling. There is a Three car Drive way and a double car drive to the back of the property. Where the Foundation is prepared for a 30x30 garage, with a Full bath. One 200 AMP SERVICE is just for the Future Garage/ Carport. The Whole Perimeter of the property is fenced in Colored Fence Block from the factory. The front of the Home has a porch covering the Entire Front of the home, with a Gable at the Front Door Entry. we have 3- heat pump

units ,1- Upstairs, 1- Down stairs, 1- for the Apt under roof. There is a Mechanical area where all the phone, cable, and a Home Run

1- inch piping to each room for Future Ideas, is planned for. a swamp cooler is designed to bring air in the lower floor and move it up to the second floor to keep the attic cooler. This is one of the Accomplishments. That makes me a candidate for Maintenance Tech.

My day started with a 6-mile run in the morning, at 7 to 8 minutes a mile.

Then it was shower and walk or drive to school.

I usually went home for Lunch, I loved to be home.

After Classes I would run another 6 miles and then go lift weights for 1 or 2 hours to improve my strength to run. If, I ran 6- miles , I had to lift weights. If , I ran 10 miles, i could shower and go home to do Home work.

home work would go till midnight or early morning and end up with one chapter a day of Bible reading, If, I feel asleep..I would start all over or pick-up where I left off till I finished. then it was Prayer Time on my Knees. Many mornings, I was awaken on my knees to start it all over again.

Variety is NOT THE SPICE OF LIFE.

DICIPLINE is the SPICE of LIFE and Life More ABUNDANTLY with JESUS.

My Accomplishments.

BUILDING MODEL CARS AND AIRPLANES

As a youth I would Build Build , Models, Model cars, Model airplanes, and Going to Church.

LEARNING MUSIC

Mom Tried to teach me the Piano at age 9. My hands did not reach the keys, to make chords, so, lessons were stopped.

Latter, we moved to California and I started Guitar Lessons. It wa good ,till my Fingers, felt the guitar strings taking a toll on my finger tips. There was things about the guitar , I did not understand, like the Musical parts ( Lead, Rhythm, Melody) that the guitar can play and does play. The strings hurt my finger tips, later I learned about " Super Slinky Guitar Strings" Now , I know all this; but time would have to open up now, to continue to play the guitar.

So, as time went on we moved back to Phoenix, Az it was now the end of 6th grade. age 12.

LEARNING THE MOTEL BUSINESS

We were a part of Managing a Motel. then Dad started his own Swimming Pool Business. While at the Motel we learned about , what it takes to Manage and operate a Motel. And there was a Swimming Pool (to maintain). Life was good, At the end of 8th Grade we moved to where we live now .

HIGH SCHOOL, TRACK & CROSS COUNTRY AND FLYING LESSONS

I started High School, at Moon Valley High,

Ran Track and Cross Country. During my Sophomore summer I wrote up a plan to run 1,000 miles in the summer. (6 miles in the am and 10 miles in the pm) I also cleaned swimming pools in the day for the Family Swimming Pool Business with my Brothers, I had just started driving. Some days , I was so tired I did not keep the plan. But, the Mileage, had to be made up ,to make my goal. That summer,I worked at the 4- Square Youth Camp Snack Bar in Williams , Arizona. I needed to keep running. So, where to run?? I asked around and it was said how about the Airport?? It was I believe about 6 to 7 Miles one way, That was it!! I could do aprox. 12 to 13 miles in one run. It was very different with the "altitude " (more than 1 mile above Sea Level ) with less air and the need to Run. There was hills and not all flat ground . Like, I was accustomed to, this was good Training.

I was back on track, it was a successful "running Summer" I had worked and went to Youth camp and now The school year was starting, and that would be Cross country Practice. I had run above 1,000 miles ( I made sure I went over 1,000 miles. So, I could say " I ran over 1,000 miles in the Summer")

So, 6 miles in the Morning and 10 miles at night and High School Classes , on top of it with Homework and Daily Bible Study Concluding with Prayer to Lord Jesus.

My Junior year was Running, High School, Cleaning Swimming Pools on the week end. and My dad was always saying

" I am letting you run." So, you thought , I took Sundays off??? nope, the church we went to was about 15 miles away , (I computed) from our home. So, I would run home Sunday Nights, and the Family Would catch up with me, when i was about 8 miles away from home.

In My Senior summer, I started Flying lessons. I took 15 lessons. I had saved up enough Money to finish to my Solo License. $600, my Dad Strongly opposed me finishing The License "saying " you will Never make any money at it" I lived at home in the back apt and worked for My Father. I felt Biblically , I had no choice; unless.. I moved out. So, I decided to purchase a bedroom set and it was with me into my marriage. Later I did pursue Ground School and Passed!! then , I got married and Life changed.

ARCHEITECTUAL LEARNING PUT TO WORK

The Home/ Apt. that we live in now was Designed by me over 44 years ago, that was where it all started.

66 FORD LTD REBUILT

I had purchased the family car (66 Ford LTD Police Pursuit Vehicle )with a C-6 Transmission (that I rebuilt At Glendale Community College Night Classes ) after High School and Started the Restoration Process. Now I needed a ride to College , I believe I was riding with my #2-Brother (that had unbeknown to me: said to My mother " I have the perfect girl for Alan")He introduced us, I said in my Heart," Oh my God That girl really needs help." I don't think that is the one for me.

As time went on,(through a series of events)we (laurie & I started riding together to and from college). I continued the rebuilding process of the 66 FORD LTD.

later after we Wedded 8/26/78 it became our Family car.

2610 RENT HOUSE IRRIGATION

We lived at 2610 West Lane about 5 years.

We needed Irrigation piping about 100 feet. I prayed and asked the Lord to give us the Pipe we needed. It had rained many days that year and many places were flooded. I was coming home from cleaning pools and saw this

"2 foot in diameter CULVERT that was 20 feet long on the side of the road..... it was for a Golf Course , that was being constructed. I had always heard trust God and dream big!!! So I went back into the property and found a man in the Job Trailer and asked for the pipe, he asked "what are you going to use it for?" I told him of the need and he said "well it has been two weeks of no money and I could use some money" (the rain made things so muddy , the tractors and dozers could not do any work.) We agreed on a CASH PRICE, he said "This is for the STEAK FUND." He came out and started to load it on My dads Truck Rack, We realized, it was too HEAVY, and would most likely , KILL the pipe rack. We agreed to do it another day. I was able to get a Friend to help with a 16 foot trailer with sides and eventually it came to 2610. BUT, how to get it off the trailer and in to place? We put a hole in the end of it and chained it to I think a Power pole and drove the trailer away, there was still the need to lower it into the ground and cement work to do. They had to be joined and an INTERFACE CEMENT STRUCTURE had to built to channel the Irrigation Water through the culvert and block off the water from traveling or to the neighbors property till we had received our allotment of water.

BULL FROGS AND BUTTERFLYS ART

Laurie and I wanted to do something at the church. So, we started helping out in The Children's Dept. They decided to put on a children's Play or Event for the church Gospel Echoes Pastor Charles Mc Hatton. I was elected to do the scenery. I made A 40 foot RAINBOW of STYROFOAM . It was in Sections, we had to suspend it from the ceiling with 16 to 20 foot ceiling with fishing line and get the tension right and get it centered and we had clouds to hang too. it had to be done that night!! I all so had taken the12" Record Cover of BULL FROGS AND BUTTERFLYS and enlarged it on to 2- 4 x 8 frames made of 1x2's. Bed sheets were stretched over the Frames and painted with white paint. The canvasses were gridded with black coal and the drawing began and was transferred and painted. It was a success!

I could go into details about the MANY Projects, I have done. So, I will Just Name them.
