• Provide emotional support and guidance to new mothers and families during labor, delivery and postpartum.
• Manage patient care during labor and delivery to provide optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes.
• Respond to emergency situations such as pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, and fetal distress.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, such as OB/GYN, Midwives, Anesthesiologist, and Nursery/NICU to deliver comprehensive obstetrical and neonatal care.
• Assist physicians by anticipating needs and being able to respond to requests during labor, during delivery, and through recovery of the postpartum period. This includes understanding when and how to operate the appropriate equipment to manage the ever changing needs of the obstetric patient. Such equipment includes but is not limited to external and internal fetal monitoring devices, assisting with and managing epidural and PCA pumps for pain management, and both hemorrhage medications and tools, such as the Bakari Balloon and Jada for fast, effective management of blood loss.
• Manage both low risk and high risk labor patients, including those with GDM, DM Insulin Dependent, GHT, and Pre-eclampsia.
• Support physician as Nurse Circulator in both planned and emergent Cesarean Section procedures.
• Function as Triage Nurse, utilizing skills learned over years of experience, to be able to make sound evaluations and recommendations to support providers in giving excellent patient care.
• Administer medications accurately and safely under physician guidance during labor induction or augmentation processes.
• Enhance patient care by implementing evidence-based nursing practices in labor and delivery procedures.
• Educate expectant mothers on available pain management options during the birthing process while respecting individual preferences.
• Promote maternal-infant bonding by educating new parents on infant care techniques such as breastfeeding and skin-to-skin contact.
• Manage Postpartum team while prioritizing needs of the patients' and maintaining policy in regard to medication administration and procedures.
• Assist with Circumcisions.
• Perform 24 hour newborn testing, including lab draws, wieght, and Congential Heart Disease testing,
• Screen, set-up and perform phototherapy as orders specifies.

Job description as list above, with the following additions:

• Functioned as Charge Nurse on more than 2-3 shifts per week.
• Managed an LDRP unit as Charge Nurse overseeing staff of several LDRP RN's and 1-2 Surgical Technicians on any given day. The unit housed 10 Labor and Delivery/Postpartum rooms, 2 Triage beds and 1 OR. I was responsible for assignments, including my own, triage, whether scheduled or walk-in, and maintaining safety and and standard of care on the unit.
• Precepted nursing students and Orientees on monthly basis as they came to us from surrounding schools.
• Cared for and assisted bereaved families.
• Participated in Shared Governance on several committees, including the Employee Engagement Committee, Audit Committee the Policy Review Committee, and Education Committee,
• Participated in the Clinical Ladder as a Clinical IV since 2012.
• Received several Daisy Awards over the years.
