Precepted new staff members. Charge nurse on night shift. Worked both 12 hour night and day shifts. Also worked in the cath lab and cardiac stress lab unit for several years during employment here.
Staff RN on a 14 bed ICU. Unit population consisted of respiratory failure, cardiac dysfunction, renal failure, neurological disorders, DKA, DIC, and post-op bariatric surgeries. Gained experience with ventilators and weaning protocol, swan-ganz catheters, cardiac arrhythmias, arterial and central lines and Minnesota tubes. Charge nurse on nights.
Started as a Student nurse in 8/88 on the Intermediate Medical Surgical Unit (IMSU) during college. After graduating continued to work in the new Non-invasive vent unit. Then transferred to the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Obtained many skills during this amazing opportunity. From my first IV starts and catheter insertions to my first vented patient on pressors with arterial and central lines. Had opportunities to work on committees, be charge nurse and precept new staff. This was when I new I loved critical care nursing!
