I currently work as a RN Coordinator for Atrium Health Mercy Palliative Care department. I help to coordinate and initiate goals of care conversations with patients and families as they deal with chronic and acute illnesses. I help support patients and their families as they transition to comfort care and withdraw from life support. I am responsible for assessing patients as they transition and make recommendations for improving their level of comfort. I work closely with clinical case management to communicate palliative care needs and follow up.

I worked as a certified wound and ostomy RN. We provided evidence-based wound and ostomy care to our inpatients with acute and chronic wounds. I was responsible for creating the plan of care based upon the character of the wound and following up on wound healing. We also ran an outpatient ostomy clinic to educate on peristoma skin care, appliance application, trouble shooting appliance issues to aid the patient in proper appliance and improved wear time. We were responsible for preoperative ostomy skin markings which aided the patient tremendously in the independent care & maintenance of their ostomy.

I worked on a busy orthopedic unit caring for patients with orthopedic issues such as musculoskeletal problems involving the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. A lot of our patients were postop patients with surgeries related to spine, shoulder, hip, knee, or ankle. I was responsible for medication administration, patient assessment, and monitoring for abnormalities. I was also responsible for adhering to orders and reporting any abnormalities to the attending physician. We documented within the electronic medical record. Within our orthopedic hospital we also had a rehabilitation unit and along with out PT and OT department we would rehab patients for several weeks to bridge them to independence at home.

I worked on a busy 10 bed inpatient hospice unit caring for patients at end of life or patients brought in for palliation of a particular symptom. Patient and family education is a big part of hospice care. We provide a lot of emotional support and grief support to our patients and their families. From Dec 2016 to June 2017 I worked as an after hours runner for HPCCR and I was responsible for rendering care to patients at end of life in the home or in the facilities or providing palliative care in order to treat a particular sign/symptom. June 2017 to June 2018 I worked as team manager for a 10 bed inpatient hospice unit. I was responsible for screening referrals, staffing, hiring of CNAs, and employee counseling as well as the day to day function of the unit.

LEADERSHIP
I was the nurse for our church’s health and wellness ministry. We started the ministry in 2012. We provided quarterly newsletters, blood pressure screenings, seminars, workout programs, demonstrations, and education to our members on the importance of health maintenance of the body, soul, and mind.
