  • As a Boatswain’s Mate aboard USNS SALVOR I reported directly to the Chief Mate (XO) for all things related to the unlicensed deck department. I was directly responsible for implementing the vessels Safety Management System in relation to the work items and evolutions being conducted on board by the deck department. Additionally, I was responsible for creating work assignments on board the vessel, assigning them to appropriately qualified individuals and verifying that the work was completed in a safe manner to industry standards of ship preservation and repair. As Ship’s Bosun I recorded all deck department unlicensed overtime, I ensured the accuracy of payroll and reported to the Chief Mate any discrepancies. As the senior unlicensed on board I was responsible for training new crew members in their safety responsibilities and distributing proper PPE to all crew members during mooring, salvage and anchoring evolutions. During extended repair periods I worked extensively with the shipyard safety officer ensuring that all safety hazards were addressed and corrected during the daily safety meeting and ensured that all scaffolding and confined space entry spaces were properly inspected each day to ensure safety for the ship’s crew and shipyard workers. During this time I also performed as Fire Marshal ensuring all firefighting and safety equipment was properly maintained, tested and repaired to include AFFF systems, Halon timer controls, Halon releases, portable fire extinguishers and firefighting hoses were properly hydro tested. On this vessel I was the ships carpenter working with wood sanding, staining, painting. Caulking in all ships and public bathrooms. Being tasked with replacing all ceiling tiles in dining area.

  • Served as Fire Marshal aboard DIEHL in charge of all Damage Control Equipment, performed monthly checks and maintenance on all AFFF systems, SCBA refilling station, fire monitors, fire stations and fire nozzles. Additionally, I performed AFFF monthly refractometer tests and performed the semi-annual A foam sampling. As Fire Marshall I served as the Chief Mate’s (XO) safety assistant, ensuring all safety gear was kept up additional duties were as ship’s carpenter doing wood work caulking sealing bathrooms and sanding painting sealing of all things related to a carpenter jobs and all door knobs automatic door closers. Snow removal was done on this ship when necessary.

  • Worked in all phases of carpentry frame to finish kitchen bathroom residential and commercial work I also did painting drywall repairs hardware such as door knobs automatic door closers. Drywall repair small jobs or big larger sheet rock jobs. Hard scape masonry repointing bricks patio stone work replacement windows doors all installed with proper hard ware. Building decks digging footings using all power and hand tools to erect and assemble the decks.
