- Capstone Project: M40 Crankcase Casting, The Engineering Technology Department wanted to use a process called “rubber plaster casting” to add new projects to the curriculum because it is inexpensive and applicable to ET courses. To meet this need, the goal of this project was to plan, design, and produce the tooling, as well as a method, that would allow an aluminum replica of an M40 glow plug engine crankcase to be recast as many times as needed on campus. To achieve this goal, a proof-of concept aluminum cast was produced. The cast was then evaluated for detail retention, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy. The tooling was then donated to the University for use in future semesters.
