Internship

As a required element to graduate in the Social Work program at Wayne State, I completed an Internship during my last two semesters (Fall & Winter) of my Senior year in college.

Using the IPT system, I found a place that caught my eye: not only because I would work with my desire community (seniors) but because I would be helping my community. I had the privilege of working with Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan in St Clair Shores, MI. This program is a free program available to Seniors in Macomb County, MI. Recently, they are opening their doors to more populations such as individuals of all ages.

Specifically, I worked under the food pantry net to assist seniors in need of food and resources.

My tasks included: organizing and maintaining the pantry clean, phone outreach to clients to remind them of their food delivery days, researching and informing the seniors of potential resources they could benefit from, assisting with storing food and lifting boxes of up to 40 lbs and organizing that food where it belongs, assisting during food pop-ups which is where we would go to the seniors' apartment building and set up tables in the community room where they would come down and "shop" at no cost. Making grocery bags for pick-up clients, helping individuals 'shop' at the pantry, disposing of inedible food.
