Work History

General Contractor/ Form to Finish Carpenter

Self-employeed
01.2006 - Current

Licensed General Contractor/ RME for Alapai Builders Inc. since 2012. Specializing in home remodels and additions. Many jobs have been in restoration work and single wall dwellings. We have done commercial work through the years as well. I have been the lead carpenter on most of the larger projects, and have run crews from 2-12 carpenters and apprentices over the last 20 years. I read plans well, and I'm also capable of design build work. I work well with crews, supervisors, and architects, but im not fond of computers.

My personal specialties are anything relating to single wall structures, leveling houses/structures, custom doors, cabinets, trim work. Capable of finishing concrete and framing, but not looking for too much more of that in my career. Capable of framing layout, and material takeoffs. I manage all of my subcontractors, and have been working with some of them for my entire 33 year career. I am familiar with most material suppliers on Oahu, and have worked with many of them my entire career as well.

Sizes of projects have ranged from $20,000 bathroom renovations, to $1,000,000 plus custom homes. I do not advertise, all of my work has been through regular clients, or referrals. My BC license is in good standing, and I'd be willing to discuss an RME position.

Apprentice-Journeyman

KAN Builders

  • The primary description of my apprenticeship was to take verbal abuse from my bosses every day and learn fast to avoid getting yelled at. The yelling stopped after about 8 years in, so Im assuming that was when I became a journeyman.
  • We did form to finish work. Mostly residential, but some commercial. We also did quite a bit of insurance work.
  • We specialized in single wall structures, additions, some new homes, and kitchens and bathrooms. We also hung and taped our own drywall if we were slow.
  • I was also lent out to our roofers (Tory's Roofing) to assist with larger roofing repair projects. As well as our masons (George Tsuda Masonry) to assist with large pours.
  • I worked weekends with other contractors for assistance with large scale projects.
