  • I participated in the Mi Via and DD Waiver as a caretaker for my handicapped son for many years
  • Since my retirement 14.10 years ago, I took on his care as a full-time provider
  • Over the last 4.5 years I was in many support situations from medical to surgical for my son who had Stage 4 Cancer
  • During the time he was fighting cancer, I worked closely with a Home Health Nurse and at the end with Hospice Nurses
  • I learned how to do many medical procedures including setting up and completion of TPN services
  • I flushed portals, cleaned the surrounding areas and did the TPN process
  • I also connected/disconnected his Sodium Chloride Saline when required during the week and cleaned and flushed the portals two times a day
  • In addition, I learned to pack a wet and dry gauze therapy in his open wounds, which happened 2 times a day
  • Additionally, I learned PT exercises that we did daily throughout the years
