  • Assist diverse high-needs students and their families through navigating and engaging in the Superintendent's hearing process of Syracuse City School District and other surrounding area school districts, focusing on restorative outcomes on behavior, academics, and social development. Assist in manifestation determination review as needed as well. Establishing a trusting and supportive relationship with students and their families in a short amount of time for the hearing is key as they can often be emotionally charged for both the families and school staff.
  • Assess needs of students to create detailed and personalized corrective action plans for use by school district staff upon the student's return to school from long-term suspension. Plans often include but are not limited to referrals to academic, legal, mental health, or other social services based in or out of school. Plans are shared with the school district superintendent, director and assistant director of discipline for the district, school principal and/or vice principal, the student's specific support team at school, and parents.
  • Follow-up with student, parent, school staff, and other support staff for six months following the student's return to school to ensure plan success and collaborate with stakeholders to adjust plan as needed. Follow-up emphasizes progress on academics/progress towards graduation, attendance, and behavior. Eligible students for this type of support also includes students returning from incarceration, residential placement, or any other justice-involved removal from school.
  • Use of trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing techniques
  • Participate in the hiring process and coordinate personnel matters with the Director as it relates to the Transition Advocacy Program.
  • Coordinate and support the Transition Advocate team by identifying beneficial training opportunities and ensuring staff readiness, including identifying any specific training needs of program staff.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with school districts, community organizations, legal services, social service providers, and internal CCA programs to improve outcomes for youth.
  • Member of the Syracuse City School District's Code of Conduct Task Force
  • Maintain accurate record keeping via case files and designated computer database.
