• Customer service functions, including greeting visitors, answering telephones, and guiding clients and their pets to exam rooms.
• Presenting and explaining fees, including processing payments.
• Recommending, selecting, and obtaining products and services, including prescriptions.
• Answering questions regarding products and services, including educating clients on general animal husbandry and non-medical pet care • Managing medical records, charts, reports and correspondence.
• Hospital maintenance (including removal of animal waste) and ensuring that the facility is neat and clean at all times—both inside and outside. • Performing laboratory work and diagnostic imaging.
• Providing compassionate care and a home away from home for boarded and hospitalized pets.
• Perform direct medical care for patients according to prescribed treatment plan.
• Assist DVM with procedures including but not limited to anesthesia, surgery, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy activities. • Support DVM and hospital staff as needed to restrain and to lift animals for direct care.
• Ensure all patients are identified including documentation on the hospital entry day sheet, ID collar and cage card.
• Monitor patients and maintain charts/records to document medical status.
• Organize daily duties and medical/surgical procedures for efficient utilization of staff.
• Maintain and update charges for medical/surgical procedures, medications and other service fees.
• Maintain logbooks involving radiology, surgery, anesthesia, laboratory, controlled substances and others required record keeping. • Maintain patient hygiene including bathing, changing bedding, cleaning and sanitizing kennel and cages.
• Feed and maintain water for patients as needed.
• Work independently in order to provide ongoing patient care.
• Work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Adhere to all company safety and animal health care policies.
• Contact other clinics or hospitals to request records or to refer patients when needed. Enter records into the practice computer system. Prepare records to be reviewed to be sent to other clinics or hospitals.
• Answer client’s inquiries about hospital policies, basic pet care questions, cost of immunizations, cost of spays/neuters, boarding policies and boarding prices.
• Schedules appointments, surgeries and discharge appointments in accordance with the veterinarians’ schedule. Schedules boarding reservations in accordance to kennel availability.
