  • Continuously monitors patient status and all ECMO equipment to maintain optimal operational conditions.
  • Maintains ECMO blood flow and sweep gas parameters per established guidelines or physician/advanced practice provider order.
  • Reviews all laboratory and radiographic reports related to the ECMO patient and recommends appropriate changes as necessary based on new information or change in patient status.
  • Immediately responds to ECLS patient emergency situations with appropriate recommendations and intervening actions.
  • Monitors appropriate anti-coagulation tests and adjusts or recommends the adjustment of anticoagulant drugs per hospital guidelines or physician/advanced practice provider orders.
  • Can set up and prime ECMO circuits according to program standards and hospital policies.
  • Assists the ECLS physician with initiation of support and decannulation in conjunction with the surgical team in accordance with hospital policy.
