Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision, following standard protocols and recognizing deviations from expected results.
Review and evaluate lab data, ensuring accurate reporting of patient results with all required documentation.
Conduct, record, and evaluate quality control (QC) data, checking expiration dates and documenting QC performance before use.
Perform and document maintenance procedures for laboratory instruments and equipment; troubleshoot malfunctions according to protocol.
Monitor factors affecting test measurements and results, taking appropriate corrective action when necessary.
Work independently to meet deadlines, problem-solve, and fulfill urgent patient, provider, and system needs.
Review and suggest revisions for test procedures; participate in evaluations of new tests or instruments as assigned.
Manage laboratory inventory, notify responsible personnel when supplies are needed, and receive/unpack deliveries.
Train and instruct employees and students, assessing staff competency as appropriate.
Communicate key information to staff, management, medical directors, and other divisions.
Oversee daily lab operations including sample collection, processing, results reporting/distribution, personnel direction, and clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow.
Interact with hospital personnel, physicians, volunteers, and patients regarding specimens and test results, ensuring compliance with laboratory policies and sensitivity to customer needs.
Interpret antimicrobial susceptibility testing and report results in a timely and accurate manner.
