As a member of CERT 9-man special operations team I conducted unscheduled searches of the facility, inmates, and Officers property. Conduct car searches with K-9 officers on staff and visitors' vehicles to prevent the introduction of contraband. Maintain order among inmates with assaultive behavior problems and disruptive gang activity. Investigate and seek intelligence for leads pertaining to Officers dealing with inmates and contraband in or entering in the facility and taking the appropriate action to remove contraband or staff that brought the contraband in. Transfer disciplinary problem inmates throughout the state. In the absence of the supervisor took on all duties and responsibilities of CERT Commander.

Accomplishments


  • While working at Ware State Prison I joined the CERT (Correctional Emergency Response Team) After 9 months of service the Warden moved me to Commander for 2 months while he searched for another Lieutenant to replace the Lieutenant that was advancing to a federal job.
  • I then served as Assistant Commander from 2010-2012 and back to Commander for 10 months from 2013-2014, supervising 8 members.
  • 2013 Ware CERT competed against 34 CERT teams and won the Commissioners Challenge Competition.
  • While working in Valdosta State Prison for 15 years I was on Tactical Squad for 14 years, Commander for 3 years and Assistant Commander for 7 years
  • Established a faster call out procedure for the Tactical Squad at Valdosta.
  • Got the policy change state wide for new officers trying out for Tactical Squad, they used to have to wait a year before they could try out I got it changed to after they are assigned to a shift
  • 99% of the time for 14 years had the most conditioned Squad in the state proven by physical training test scores given at Forsyth twice a year. This competition for the highest PT scores developed into the annual Tactical Squad and CERT Commissioners Challenge.
  • As a Senior Drill Instructor I assisted in training officers from across the state in basic boot camp training for ITP and new tactical Squad members in Forsyth Ga.
  • While working in Valdosta in ITP (Intensive Therapeutic Program) – Boot camp program for disciplinary problem inmates. I made a 100-page rules and regulations hand book for all inmates entering into the program. This handbook was used throughout the state at other prisons to open their ITP programs.
