Personal Information

Title: CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

Accomplishments

  • Cut costs through value engineering. Site excavation for JB Olsen commercial building produced thousands of yards of soil. Enrolled civil engineer in idea of shifting dirt from lower elevation to another location on site, eliminating need for hauling. Redesigned drawings, resubmitted to city for approval, and saved $500K in costs.
  • Lowered insurance rates through safety program. JB Olsen had no safety manager and weak program. Instituted comprehensive safety training, implementing rules and policies company-wide. Promoted to Safety Manager, training staff and enforcing program. Decreased EMR (Experience Modification Rate) to 0.82
  • Precluded receipt of OSHA safety citations. Uncovered numerous safety violations by steel contractor and terminated contract. OSHA conducted on-site inspection, finding only a few violations on the building site. Because of in-place safety program, received CAL-OSHA recommendation and saved $40K.
  • Avoided lost time during union strike. Carpenter's Union was upset about JB Olsen's decision to hire a particular subcontractor. Anticipating picket line, established two-gate system at location, allowing union contractor's access without crossing line. Superintendent implemented pre-set strike protocol and prevented $250K in lost time.
