  • Company Overview: Fortune was founded in 1929 and continues today with a rich history in publishing, as well as a robust conferences and membership business.
  • I currently lead the one of our Product teams, which is tasked with measuring and increasing engagement, while helping our visitors navigate our funnel. We accomplish this by using data to bookend our work. We start with the data, to ensure we fully understand the problem and to know how we will measure success. Then we close with the data, by evaluating the effectiveness of our hypotheses.
  • During my time at Fortune, I have led several teams on different parts of the business, focusing primarily on consumer products, our first-party data strategy, and the MarTech stack for the company. Here are some of the highlights.
  • I led the team tasked with creating a new first-party data strategy. I drove the CDP selection process including proof of concepts to evaluate the leading vendors and coordinate with the Head of Data Engineering and my Technology Lead to strategize our architecture for the MarTech stack from event stream data to CRM and decision engine. The goal is to optimize the revenue opportunity for each visit via identity resolution, data enrichment, audience creation, and personalization. The first part of the business to realize the value of this work was our advertising team. Fortune saw a 15-20% increase in CPMs and a 10-20% increase in win rates because of the access we can now provide advertisers to unique first party data.
  • My first project at Fortune was to launch their original Paywall. In 2023 we launched Paywall 3.0, which was a new experiment in how we target visitors. Despite being active for only half the year, these changes resulted in the company realizing 114% of annual revenue projections for the Paywall.
  • I led the team that launched Fortune's first start-up, Fortune Connect, a membership community for professionals who wanted opportunities for continuous learning and community practice during the pandemic. We supported 400 paid members within the first six months and reached a peak of 1800+ members.

Job overview

  • During my time at the NHL, we had 30 teams across the US and Canada playing 1230 regular season games plus the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Our suite of digital products included broadband and mobile websites and native apps on iOS, Android, phones, tablets, and connected devices with international subscription video services, as well as white label club apps with in and out of arena experiential, multimedia capabilities.
  • Worked on complete redesign of the NHL League app on iOS and Android handsets. Managed requirements, did wireframe and design reviews, and oversaw all off- and near-shore testing including third-party testing vendors. The new app resulted in video starts increasing 87%, sessions up 29%, logged-in users up 11% and in-app purchase revenue increasing by 13%.
  • Managed the custom white-label app used by 20 (of the then 30 clubs) for their own team apps. This included not only the development of the apps, but also required working directly with individual teams to operationalize their app deployment and account for any third-party SDKs they required.
