Storage Architect

EMC, Federal Agency
11.2007 - 10.2013
  • Supported EMC hardware and software products at over 10 locations.
  • EMC hardware included installations of EMC DMX4 Symmetrix Arrays, redundant Cisco Enterprise Class Fiber Channel Switches, EMC CX3/CX4/VNX Clariion Storage Arrays, EMC Centera CAS storage arrays, and EMC RecoverPoint appliances.
  • The EMC software suite of applications includes Solutions Enabler, PowerPath, EMC Control Center Product Suite (ECC), Cisco Fabric Manager, EMC Replication Manager, and RecoverPoint Management Application.
  • Lead engineer responsible for sustaining a supported code baseline across all customer locations.
  • Engineering responsibilities included Symmetrix BIN file configurations, Clariion disk layout creation, creation of RecoverPoint storage groups, including attaching to CX/SAN Tap splitters, zoning changes, and the migration of customer data.
  • Other tasks included performance analysis using Performance Manager and Unisphere Manager, automation of Replication Manager disk-based backups, along with validating the health of SAN systems.
  • Lead engineer responsible for the design and implementation of data migration procedures that allowed the customer to move from a retired array to new CX/VNX solutions via EMC's RecoverPoint solution.

Storage Architect

Booz Allen & Hamilton, Federal Agency
01.2000 - 11.2007
  • Storage Architect responsible for agency-wide engineering and implementation of EMC hardware/software.
  • EMC hardware includes multiple installations of fully populated EMC DMX2000 Symmetrix Arrays, redundant McData 64-port Enterprise Class Fiber Channel Switches, McData 1620 (iFCP/iSCSI, Eport) distance extension switches, EMC CX700 Clariion Storage Arrays, and EMC Centera CAS storage arrays.
  • The EMC software suite of applications includes Solutions Enabler, PowerPath, the EMC Control Center Product Suite (ECC), Connectrix Manager, TimeFinder Exchange Integration Module (TEIM), TimeFinder SQL Integration Module (TSIM), Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF)/AR, and McData Sanvergence Manager.
  • Technical lead responsible for the validation of storage baseline changes, along with the evaluation of performance data captured from the performance manager (ECC).
  • Engineering responsibilities included Symmetrix BIN file configurations, Clariion disk layout creation, TEIM/TSIM architecture development, fiber channel switch port mappings, and baseline testing software updates published in the EMC Supportability Matrix (ESM).
  • Other tasks included the engineering and integration of an enterprise SRM tool (ECC), the creation of Timefinder scripts to automate SRDF replication, along with information lifecycle management of CAS-based storage interfacing email archiving software.
  • Lead engineer responsible for the design and implementation of EMC's TEIM 'VSS' snapshot backup, replication, and DR solution.
  • The 'VSS' split capability provided maintenance staff with the flexibility to take a consistent point-in-time copy of any enterprise Exchange Information Stores at any time of the day.
  • Key integrator responsible for a mature storage environment in the fields of disaster recovery, business continuance, and lifecycle management.
  • Disaster recovery enhancements were solidified by implementing a hardware-based replication scheme (SRDF), along with using EMC/Microsoft collaboration products like TEIM (Timefinder Exchange Integration Module) for VSS support.
  • Business continuance has flourished as local point-in-time copies of Exchange data are available for local disasters, along with offline copies that have integrity verified before replicating across the WAN.
  • Multiple layers of protection were built into the system, as additional Gold Copy BVCs (Business Continuance Volumes) are created on the remote side for recovery and to fulfill offsite storage requirements.
  • Diskless server technology was integrated into the system, as recovery times are now measured in minutes for any type of local server hardware failure.
  • Lifecycle management was realized with the integration of a KVS email archiving front end, talking to an EMC Centera disk-based backend.
  • CAS (Content Addressable Storage) is the technology in which a 128-bit encrypted hardware address is created for each email authored, with rules created in the system to pull the data out of your Exchange Information Stores and place it on the Centera.
  • The system also includes a DR solution for archiving, as the Centers invoke bidirectional replication between sites.

Project Manager

American Red Cross
01.1999 - 01.2000
  • Systems Management Server Project Manager responsible for the operations of a twelve-thousand-user network made up of ten primary site servers and one hundred secondary site servers.
  • Chief designer tasked with the redesign of the SMS hierarchy and baseline of new server hardware.
  • Technical lead responsible for the creation of all SMS packages via SMSInstaller scripts or Windows NT shell scripts for COTS, and in-house developed software, along with documenting all technical aspects of the packages.
  • Documenting standards for network operations, SMS administration, and package creation, approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Resolving all cases related to SMS issues within an Oracle Clarify Case queue.
  • Implementing SQL database security, remote control accessibility, and MIFENTRY program functionality.
  • Maintenance and creation of virtual private network secondary sites also require the manipulation of WINS databases, occasionally requiring the implementation of LMHOSTS files.
