David Commerman, originally from Belgium and now based in Los Angeles, is a dynamic and multilingual Lighting Designer with over 11 years of experience in the film industry, including 5 years as a Gaffer. His diverse background spans commercials, narrative films, TV shows, documentaries, and broadcasting, where he honed his craft as a Lighting Technician. David has worked with high-profile clients such as Dolby, Disney, The Academy of Motions Pictures, AMC, Green Day, Joico, Logitech, TurboTax, KIA, Nestlé, Wet N Wild, the European Parliament, ING, and many others. His work has been showcased at film festivals around the world.
As a Gaffer, David’s experience includes notable projects such as the Dolby interviews with the legendary Denis Villeneuve and James Cameron, where he brought his lighting expertise to set the mood and enhance the storytelling for these iconic filmmakers. He also had the privilege of being the Gaffer for Green Day's most recent music video "Bobby Sox".
David is known for bringing positivity, creativity, and simplicity to every project, always striving to streamline production and ensure efficiency. He places a strong emphasis on thorough preparation, which allows shoot days to run smoothly and productively. Whether working on large-scale productions with a full crew and his 1-ton G&E van or handling smaller projects independently, David adapts seamlessly to the unique needs of each production.
