PROJECTS

Analysis and Development of Alternative Construction and Components for Hybrid UAV

  • Research of parts, materials, and tools to improve a previously designed UAV with VTOL and horizontal flight that is under 150 lbs and able to be disassembled into multiple pieces.
  • I handled the manufacturability and tooling required, the material composition and bonding materials, the construction and design changes of the UAV.
  • I used solidworks for some basic design of the new fuselage, my composites and bonding knowledge for the durability and strength of the UAV, and stress/ strain analysis of the bonding between composite parts of the wings and fuse.

Heat Exchanger Simulation and Data Reduction Report

  • Construction of a heat exchanger consisting of a helical coil inside a shell, that is converted into simulated fluid motion using ANSYS Fluent to compare data between different pitches.
  • I generated the volumetric mesh of the heat exchanger in Fluent, the Reynolds values for both the coil and shell of the heat exchanger, and ran the calculations of local and average convection coefficient from Fluent.
  • In this project I mainly used my knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics in the calculations and attempts at running Fluent.

Vertical Wind Turbines and their Applications

  • Research and creation of a model vertical axis wind turbine and calculating power generation in real life power systems.
  • I worked on the wind blades for the prototype and finding the optimal spacing to capture the most wind as well as some of the calculations for large scale implantation.
  • For this project I used solidworks for determining the layout of the fins, my fabrication skills to create the turbine blades, and my knowledge about power and electrical systems.
