I am a strong proactive safety professional who strives to ensure that at the end of the day, my people can go home as healthy as they came after working under can sometimes be dangerous work or conditions. Im passionate about the work I do mainly because over 3 short years ago these are the people I worked beside for 10 hours a day. Now I enjoy the feeling that I can be of better service to them and help take care of safety issues they may come up against. When giving orientation to new hires, along with delivering company practices I like to add personal accounts when I was new or experiences I've had on different projects. I feel it keeps them interested and involved if you add in personal experiences and also that you've been there that long. As for the numerous OSHA classes I've taken, I always come away trying to think what each class has taught me and how I can apply it to the currant issues or situations that I have.
My duties as Safety Coordinator include but are not limited to inspection of any and all projects to ensure all company safety policies and regulations are in compliance and to to act as a resource or assist project superintendents for advice or consultation when needed. I review and investigate all accident reports for accuracy and ensure all corrective actions are taken. I help develop and maintain a safety education program for all employees of Delaware Elevator regardless of department they work in. When able I attend job-site pre-construction meetings to review safety requirements of each subcontractor associated with the project. I visit each job site on a regular basis to ensure crews are in compliance, work areas are kept safe and record the findings. In doing so I make sure each site has all required signs, posters and materials to assist in keeping the project safe for employees. The other part of my duties include training new employees each month for areas such as rigging, forklift, CPR-AED and recognizing hazards in the work place along with teaching the company policies and things that are expected of them as part of Delaware Elevator.
As an elevator mechanic working for Delaware Elevator, my job included running crews, filling the foreman position, working with general contractors, teaching new hired employees about the basics of safety and their role in constructing commercial and residential elevators. I stressed the importance of them and their efforts to keep from becoming complacent on the job site and to stay aware of their surroundings. Last but not least to construct a quality elevator safely for the customer. Other duties included checking site drawings and surveying jobs before the start of the projects.
