  • Serve as the CEO and Appointing Authority of an independent state agency that oversees the Louisiana School for the Deaf, the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired, and the Special Schools' Program
  • Develop, implement, and manage a $39 million budget within an organization with 300+ employees and 16 sites across that state including a 116 acre main campus in Baton Rouge
  • Work closely with state control agencies and the legislature to secure resources for the agency and advise on policy issues that affect students across the state
  • Significantly improved organizational efficiency and services by reallocating resources and completing a central office reorganization
  • Dramatically improved the organization's climate and culture by increasing communication, relying on a collaborative leadership approach, and developing/repairing relationships with district stakeholders
  • Track state and federal legislation to determine impact on the agency and develop plans to implement after passed into law
  • Serving as a Commissioner on the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf, I work with community members, advocacy groups, state agencies and members of the legislature to improve quality of life and access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens across the state

Services included a day/residential school, district outreach services, and the blind/visually impaired resource center. 180 plus staff, $16.2 million budget
  • Increased opportunities for students by expanding work based learning opportunities, creating strategic partnerships with outside agencies, and building support for the school across the state
  • Increased the number of students served through the reallocation of resources across all divisions (school, outreach, and resource center)
  • Realigned the administrative structure which increased efficiency, enhanced services, and maximized resources including increasing interdepartmental and federal revenues by 63% and expanding the fund balance (reserves) by 100%
  • Significantly improved the school's facilities by restructuring the district operations team, addressing deferred maintenance, and leveraging state resources
  • In collaboration with Trevecca Nazarene University, developed the state's first Teacher of the Visually Impaired endorsement only program
  • Partnered with the Tennessee Departments of Education and Health to develop robust return to school and safety guidelines to address operations during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Led a collaborative effort to develop a comprehensive remote learning plan that addresses the unique learning needs of students with disabilities
  • Served on the Governor's student funding committee and advised on the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act which overhauled the state's per pupil funding model
