I accomplished this by importing the engineer's drawings into my surveying software, creating a staking plan, and sending the coordinate file to a data collector which I would use to drive my total station in performing the staking out of the project. I would also draw my own site plans when this was allowed. Later I would still draw them in 2D and send the plan to an engineer for full design.
