Engineering Department

Walt Elwood & Gary Fitton

• Oversee/manage day-to-day inspections for capital and development projects, to adhere to specifications set forth by the designer, city standards, and/or NCTCOG.

• Manage and Coordinate with contractors on methods, sequence, SWPPP, traffic control, and general public safety during the construction of streets, alleys, sidewalks, storm water systems, structures, parking lots, water and sanitary sewer systems

• Prepare estimates to assist in future budgets

• Measure and calculate quantities for payment on contracts

• Read and interpret construction plans as well as maintain as-builts

• Record and store daily journals for future reference via On-Base

• Communicate courteously and effectively with the public, contractors, city officials, engineers, and developers

• Assist in administrative office and fieldwork

• Perform general computer work with a basic understanding and working knowledge of programs, including On-base, Cityworks, and Microsoft Word/Excel

• Respond to public and/or city official complaints and mitigate those concerns by resolving the present issues
  
• Successfully oversaw inspections and quantities for the 2017, 2018, and 2019 neighborhoods' annual street repair contracts before taking over and overseeing the 14 million-dollar Main St. Project in downtown Richardson

Building Inspection Department

Supervisor: Stephanie Jackson-Veach

• Received and executed daily inspections on new home builds, remodels/add-ons, foundations, driveways, fences, retaining walls, sites, and signs to ensure permitted and non-permitted construction in the City of Richardson was in compliance with state and local regulations/ordinances.

• Communicating and coordinating with contractors and residents to provide inspections as requested
  Read, review, and interpret construction plans
  Organize and prioritize daily inspections as well as monthly/yearly follow-up inspections

• Respond to public and/or city official complaints and mitigate those concerns by resolving the present issues, often using the online issue center on IBM notes

Street Department

Supervisor: Ron Maples

• Performed manual labor and used tools as well as operated equipment required to maintain, repair, and construct street, drainage, and alley systems.
• Relative skills acquired include a variety of construction methods and techniques, team building, and communication techniques.

Construction Rehabilitation Department

Supervisor: Donnie Davis

• Performed manual labor and used tools as well as operated equipment required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, wastewater collection, street/alley repairs/construction, and drainage systems.
• Relative skills acquired include various construction methods and techniques in a variety of public works fields, team building, and communication techniques.
