  • Provide specific direction to PSC employees on a daily basis on the work activities that need to be accomplished.
  • Hold daily communications with our customers and Site Leader to ensure important issues are being shared with everyone in a timely fashion.
  • Include Site Leader on all customer communications that are being discussed for your areas.
  • Conduct daily training/safety tailgate meetings for each shift.
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings for all employees (including development of an agenda for the meetings and minutes for group wide distribution of the meetings).
  • Take charge of all initial incident investigations concerning operations. This includes follow-up on action items and counseling/disciplinary action with employees.
  • Provide absence, vacation, and relief coverage as required in all of the areas.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting all KPI data that they are responsible for.
  • responsible for performing at least 4 safety observations per week.
  • Ensure proper training and certification of all employees to DOT, OSHA, USCG, and customer guidelines.
  • Responsible for following up on New Hire training (PQG, Weekly Assessments, Panel Reviews).
  • Responsible for managing their manpower to ensure all shifts are covered the most efficient way possible.
  • Work with the customer’s processes to develop and update facility operations procedures.

  • · Report defective equipment and unsafe conditions immediately when found or if reported to you.
  • · Report personal injuries and near misses as well as incidents such as: derailments, property damage, side swipes. Make sure to follow the Incident Management Protocol to communicate all incidents and submit internal incident report.
  • · Ensure Conductor never leave/abandon crew for extended periods of time.
  • · Enforce our rules and policies. Especially our cell phone policy!
  • · Ensure that crews are following safety procedures and when someone is found to be deviating from procedure address it immediately, escalate where necessary.
  • · Be in the field whenever possible. Be a presence out there. Be seen and let them know that they are supported.
  • Keep track of all performance issues from your crews and inform leadership to have things addressed in a timely manner, as well as all employee performance highlights so that they may be awarded.
  • · If an employee calls in or does not show up, find out if/when that employee is coming and replace that employee if needed. Report absences and call ins.
  • Proactively solve problems as soon as possible and address issues as to not let things fester on. Do not leave it for the next crew. Extinguish at the lowest level.
  • Make decisions and stand behind your decisions when questioned by the crews even if they may not be the popular one and may cause some disagreement.
  • Do not allow crew members to verbally degrade or harass anyone. Respect and Responsibility.
  • Provide leadership to Yardmaster in making decisions to insure employees are following procedures and policies as well as elevating to leadership for discipline when necessary.
  • Be consistent! There are no favorites. Every member of our group will be treated the same and held to the same standards no exception.
  • When needed, issue track outage permits and perform on-site observation to ensure flags/derailers are placed in the correct place and position.
  • Ensure the accuracy of our weighing process and communicate to leadership to correct any procedure violations observed during this process.
  • Ensure that crews are held accountable for lost cars, missed shippers and late spotting. Make them go find cars they lose. Report Conductor that does not turn in moves routinely and fail to comply with direction that is given.
  • Do not allow the use of foul, obscene or offensive language over radios.
  • For tracking and record keeping reasons, all employee issues and praises should be documented and communicated via email (Unless immediate attention is needed.)
  • Inform your crews that they will need to work overtime to help complete work or cover open positions as needed as quickly as possible as to allow them time to make arrangements.
