  • Provide specialized obstetric nursing to normal/high-risk obstetric patients in the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
  • Triage, admitted and/or discharged patients after consulting with physician on plan of care, setting up follow-up care for discharged patients and providing appropriate education as needed.
  • Delivered high-quality, evidence based and compassionate care to laboring patients making appropriate interventions by reading and interpreting fetal heart monitoring strips. Examine and assess obstetric patients and newborns, charting assessments in a timely manner.
  • Independently determine and implement proper emergency interventions within scope of practice after identifying and interpreting maternal and/or fetal distress and newborns.
  • Perform in Charge nurse, floor nurse, OR Circulator and PACU nurse roles as necessary.
  • Charge nurse responsibilities to include: Make decisions regarding priorities for patient care for shift assignments and assign duties and delegate patient care to other registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, operating room technicians, nursing assistants, and/or corpsman. Serve as a resource and role model for other maternal/child nurses and health care providers, including experienced and fully trained registered nurses and resident physicians.
  • Administered medications via oral, IV, and intramuscular injections and monitored responses. Medications include but not limited to : Magnesium, Pitocin, heparin, narcotics, and hemorrhage medications.
  • Assist physicians and anesthesia providers with complex procedures such as epidural insertions and general anesthesia, IUPC/FSE placement, AROM and other procedures as needed. Liaised between patients and physicians to ensure patient comprehension of treatment.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individual treatment plans ensuring physician orders are effectively carried out, including testing, monitoring, medical procedures, consultations, medication administration and stat orders.
  • Remained calm during high-stress, critical situations, demonstrating sustained focus and problem-solving in real-time.
  • Utilize the nursing process to formulate a nursing plan of care relative to patients physiological, psychological, and sociological condition in order to provide ongoing and in-depth assessment of patient problems, strengths and limitations and implement a proper nursing diagnosis.
