I spent 2 years at the Nursing Home in my hometown starting in dietary after school. When Id graduated and went to my LPN training I would spend Fridays through Sundays working at the same nursing home as an evening shift nurse aid. Halfway through the yearlong LPN program I trained for a respiratory therapy aide. I then worked full time evenings in the small hospital working in codes, drawing and running blood gases and breathing treatments. After my LPN graduation I then worked for a time at the local nursing home again along with continuing in respiratory department at hospital. After 2 years, I came to Fort Smith and settled into an oncology floor staff nurse position at then Sparks. I spent approximately 12 years there, then moved to the nephrology unit where I learned about dialysis ‘& was trained to manage & perform peritoneal dialysis. I have never shied away from hard work, challenges and believe I’ve kept a caring heart and good humor. After 14 years in nephro I took an office job working as census taker, bed placement & most importantly transfers from outlying facilities. It demanded a lot emotionally as the physicians were usually impatient and pressed for time but I always managed to stay focused & good natured. I hope this helps you to visualize what I’m about: caring for others, dealing with difficulties & hard work
