  • Primary RN for attendance of newborn deliveries, responding from the Level 3 NICU; including low, moderate and high-risk deliveries.
  • Responsible for coordinating care of well newborns, special-care nursery newborns, and NICU newborns with all members of the care-team (doctors, NPs, RTs, pharmacy, nutrition, ID, lactation consultants, etc.), both onsite and offsite.
  • Responsible for recognizing and implementing normal newborn care, and recognize and acting on immediate need for interventions, including initializing Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) algorithm, both during and after delivery, as well as while in the NICU or post partum unit.
  • Working with families and the multidisciplinary team to develop appropriate care plans and being able to implement the nursing responsibilities. Also includes planning, moving towards, and discharging infants after ensuring all aspects of the development plan have been met, and all appropriate referrals and appointments have been scheduled. As well as providing extensive education on varying levels for the familes of infants in my care.
  • In the NICU, caring for preterm infants, low birthweight infants, and term infants with medical problems, including chronic and acutely ill patients. Managing IV fluids, NG/OG feeding, multiple modes of oxygen delivery (vapotherm, CPAP, ventilators, etc.), and other aspects of full care for the neonatal/infant population.
  • Cross trained to the Inpatient Pediatric and PICU unit to care for all ages and various disease processes in those population. Including, but not limited to, DKA and diabetic management, asthma and other respiratory disruptions and care, various GI processes, and mental health acute interventions.
