Volunteer Experience

  • Border Angels: Volunteered with Border Angels for 11 months, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for human rights, humane immigration reform, and social justice with the aim of reducing fatalities along the US-Mexico border. During my time as a volunteer, I actively participated in education programs, contributed to water drops in the desert, and provided shelter aid for migrants and asylum seekers.
  • Sharp Memorial Hospital: Volunteered for 100 hours at the Short Stay Nursing Unit at Sharp Memorial Hospital, a telemetry observation and medical-surgical overflow unit. The patient demographic mainly consisted of individuals with cardiac, diabetic, pulmonary, and renal conditions. Responsibilities included transporting laboratory results, biological specimens, and patient records to their designated locations. Additionally, I assisted in patient transportation, discharge procedures, and provided companionship and emotional support to those in need. This experience deepened my understanding of patient care within a hospital setting.
  • Jacobs and Cushman Food Bank: Volunteered at Jacobs and Cushman Food Bank for 16 months, where my responsibilities encompassed various tasks. These included cleaning and packaging fresh produce for immediate distribution, inspecting, sorting, boxing, and labeling food donations. Additionally, I contributed to assembling food packages for programs such as the Senior Food Program, Moms & Children Food Program, Emergency Food Assistance Program, and our Food 4 Kids Backpack Program.
